[2008 Robot Challenge results and media]

A new robot event is being introduced at the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, starting at ICRA 2008. The event will consist of a number of specific challenges with the overall theme of "space robotics". Our goal is to make this competition accessible to all members of the ICRA community, to integrate it tightly with the technical aspects of the conference, and to encourage as many participants as possible to bring their robots and compete.

We are currently working on finalizing the rules and the structure of the events, and are looking for input from the community. If you would like to contribute your opinions and experience to the discussion, please join the discussion mailing list. As the details of the Challenge solidify, they will be posted on this web site. To be informed of new developments, please join the the announcement mailing list.

2008 Challenge Results
The first ICRA Robot Challenge was held during ICRA 2008 in Pasadena, CA, on the week of May 19th. The results and media from the event are available here.
ICRA 2008 Workshop page
We now have a page for the ICRA 2008 Robot Challenge Workshop. The workshop will consist of technical presentations from the teams, discussion of the 2009 event, and invited presentations. [21 February, 2008]
New event web pages
There is a new web page for the HRI event and a dedicated registration page for the Contingency event. We also have full details of the registration procedure on the participation page. [10 January, 2008]
Initial event descriptions
The initial event descriptions are now available. These descriptions are just broad outlines of the events, and we're looking for feedback from people interested in participating. The actual details of the events (the size of the sandbox, for example) are likely to change in response to your feedback, to make the Challenge more relevant and accessible to your robots and research. Mailing Lists

We have created two mailing lists associated with the ICRA Robot Challenge. The
icra-announce list will be our main mechanism for making formal announcements about the Challenge. We expect that this list will have a low volume of traffic. If you are interested in participating in one of the Challenge events, you should join this list. The icra-discussion list is a higher-volume list, for people who are interested in helping to organize the Challenge. It will be the main venue for discussions of the rules, structure, and other organizational issues related to the Challenge.
